چکیده

Chatter vibrations are present in almost all cutting operations and they are the major obstacles in achieving desired surface finish. Chatter vibrations are the self excited vibrations, which has an adverse effect on surface roughness, dimensional accuracy of the machined components. This paper investigates the occurrence of regenerative chatter vibrations in centerless bar turning operation. The root cause for the chatter marks on component was analysed as beat vibrations. The beat vibrations are minimized in centerless bar turning operation to overcome the chatter marks on the machined components.

An experimental investigation of chatter effects on tool life

Tool wear is one of the most important considerations in machining operations, as it affects surface quality and integrity, productivity, and cost. The most commonly used model for tool life analysis is the one proposed by F. W. Taylor about a century ago. Although the extended form of this equation includes the effects of important cutting conditions on tool wear, tool life studies are mostly ...

Transformations in Machining - 2 - Evaluation of Machining Quality and Detection of Chatter in Turning by Using S- Transformation

ABSTRACT. S-transformation is proposed to evaluate the quality of completed turning operations. The calculated time-frequency-amplitude plot of an accelerometer or cutting force signal indicates the vibration level at different frequencies and helps the operator to identify the problems. Time-frequency-damping index plots were obtained by using the s-transformation. Variance of damping index in...

Experimental investigation of the gyroscopic and rotary inertia effects on the chatter boundary in a milling process

Experimental examination of the gyroscopic and rotary inertia effects on the chatter boundary in a milling operation is the chief aim of this article. The equations of motion of the tool vibration are derived based on Timoshenko beam theory and Hamilton principle by considering gyroscopic moment, rotary inertia, velocity-dependent process damping and radial immersion effect. For a range of dept...

Simulation of Active Control of Chatter Vibrations

. This paper outlines a strategy for the active control of the self-excited vibration of machine tools which arises when metal is turned, ground or milled. The requisite sensor and actuators for successful operation of such a scheme are outlined. Examples of the results of typical sensors are illustrated in a brief review of previous work. A simple single degree of freedom model of chatter is s...

Experimental Passive Suppression of the Regenerative Chatter Phenomenon by Variation of the Frequency and Amplitude of the Spindle Motor Excitation in Turning

The suppression of the regenerative chatter phenomenon in turning process via the variation of the frequency and amplitude of the spindle motor excitation is carried out in this research. A programmable inverter is employed for variable periodic excitation of the spindle motor. A set of turning experiments is designed and performed on a number of conical work pieces both in constant spindle spe...
